Spring is here

Although today is actually the 26th day of spring, it feels like the first for many of us here in Denver. After several consecutive days of freezing, cold, snowing, windy, crappy winter weather, it was fully sunny and in the 70's at long last. You would think that on a day like today I would take my children out to the park, or for a walk or something. No, no, no. Instead, I took them to the YMCA, dropped them off at the child watch, and had over an hours-worth of workout bliss. I ran on the treadmill while watching the final hour of the Today show, and then headed to the weight room for full round of circuit training. Awesome. No one was there. My girls had free reign of the child watch (with an outstanding ratio of 3 caregivers to 2 children), and I also got one workout closer to the triathlon.

So, I do not regret spending my free time indoors. But I did drive by my favorite tree and saw that it's getting ready to bloom. This tree, which is a dogwood, it at the corner of Downing and Iliff. When it blooms, every single square inch of it is covered in blossoms. It's like no other flowering tree I've ever seen. I don't know who's responsible for pruning this tree, but he or she deserves a medal, and he or she should write a book. I'm not poetic or anything, but this tree is breathtaking. There are many dogwoods around, especially on Evans as you go through DU. None compare to this one. I frequently go by it as it's on my main jogging route. The first time I saw it two years ago, I had to stop in my tracks and look at it for a minute (I admit, I may have been out of breath as well.)
Keep watching this tree. It's going to be amazing (as long as it doesn't snow).
