Storytime: Eugene Field Branch
The Denver Public Libraries offer many wonderful programs for children. Today I visited the Eugene Field library for two delightful storytimes with my children. I was running late, which is not unusual, and I would not recommend this for this library. The parking lot has about 5 spaces and the storytime is quite popular so we had quite a walk just to get in the door. I also thought it started at 10:30, but it was actually 10:15.
The Preschool Storytime goes book/song/book/song/book song etc finishing with a simple craft. Today we got a kit to make a lion, which was a character from a book we missed due our tardiness and excessive walk. We had to take it home to construct because the lion's mane was "too messy".
The Bookbabies Storytime, which I've attended at the Decker Branch several times, was the same format here. Intended for children under 22 months, you get a song sheet, three board books and some maraca-type noise makers. You sing a few songs, go through a book and repeat until completed. Afterwards the librarian brings out toys and the kids get to play for a few minutes.
This was a great arrangement for me, having a child in each age group, because they both were entertained and in-between there was time enough to return our books and pick out new ones. And the craft is a neat little addition. My children loved constructing their lions after naptime this afternoon.
